TEMPE, Ariz. — The biggest New Year’s celebration in Arizona — the Fiesta Bowl Block Party — will kick off at 5 p.m. in downtown Tempe. Revelers can ring in the new year at this 27th annual event that includes street performers, carnival rides, dueling pianos, kids’ areas, a sports club, beer gardens, a dance club and fireworks displays at 10:00 p.m. and midnight.
This year’s Fiesta Bowl Block Party will feature two main stages hosting the best in national entertainment plus 30 local bands and entertainers on multiple stages throughout downtown Tempe. New this year, multimedia displays will be in the intersections on Mill Avenue adding a sound and light experience that can be seen by everyone.
The Arizona Centennial Copper Chopper will also be on display. Partygoers can enter a drawing to win the chopper and have their picture taken with this piece of Arizona history.
About The Fiesta Bowl Block Party
The Block Party is held in the Mill Ave. District in downtown Tempe, Ariz. The event will run from 5:00 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. on Dec. 31, 2010. Tickets cost $20 and are currently available online at www.fiestabowl.org or by phone at 480-350-0911. Discount tickets will be on sale at Fry’s Food Stores.

Headline Act
Pop-rockers Jimmy Eat World will headline the main stage this year. Jimmy Eat World has sold millions of albums over the last 16 years, garnering attention from fans both domestically and abroad. The band is currently on tour in Europe promoting its sixth full-length album, Invented, which was released in September.Formed in Mesa, Ariz. in 1994, the pop-rock band knows there is no place like home, and recorded its most recent album, Invented, in its home studio in Tempe. Appropriately, the band will spend New Year’s Eve rocking its hometown.
Parking & Transportation Options
Valley Metro Bus and Orbit routes within the City of Tempe will run for free until 2:00 a.m. to provide convenient service to and from the Fiesta Bowl Block Party. Many bus routes drop-off at the Tempe Transportation Center located at 5th St. and College Ave, which is three blocks from the event entrance. Other bus routes will go to the METRO light rail station where patrons can transfer to METRO light rail trains which will transport them to the Fiesta Bowl Block Party (regular fares apply for METRO light rail).
Light Rail: The easiest way to get to the Fiesta Bowl Block Party is by METRO light rail. You may purchase a round trip transit pass, which is good for METRO light rail or local buses, at Fry’s Food Stores when you purchase your Block Party ticket at Fry’s Food Stores. There is a METRO light rail station at 3rd St. & Mill which is a major entrance point to the Fiesta Bowl Block Party. There are eight free park-and-ride lots on the light rail system.
On New Year’s Eve, Friday, Dec. 31, METRO will run regular service, staying open late and adding more trains to support the demand from special events.
