Arizona CENTennial Penny Drive Announces WinnersJuly 19, 2011

More than 68,000 Arizona K-8 students collected $23,237.45 in pennies to assist in refurbishing the Arizona Capitol Copper Dome.
On Friday, May 20, at 10:30 a.m., at Estes Elementary School, 11279 W. Grier Road, in Marana, Estes Elementary School, as the school that collected the most pennies of any participating school statewide, will receive a $500 check, a commemorative plaque in the shape of Arizona and a party, courtesy of Bashas’ with special appearances by:
? The Copper Chopper, the official mascot of the Arizona Centennial
? John Huppenthal, Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction
? Officials of Freeport-McMoRan, program sponsor
Estes Elementary School in Marana collected $1,309.70 – more than any other school in Arizona!
One-hundred and eighteen schools and nearly 70,000 K-8 students across the state participated in this Arizona CENTennial Children’s Legacy Project to learn Arizona history and participate in a service-learning project to collect pennies that will go toward the effort to shine the Arizona State Capitol Copper Dome as it serves as centerpiece for the upcoming Centennial celebration.
